Caring for the Museum
Conservation is an integral part of the museum’s ethos. Every possible effort is made to maintain the stability of the objects. They are held in stable polystyrene boxes containing inert packing which maintains the conservational stability of the artefacts.
There are certain artefacts which are still undergoing conservation and are unable to be displayed at this time. Artefacts such as the congealed blood of the mythical medusa once part of the Ferdinand II’s collection, which did not survive in the same condition as the rest of the collection. Conservators are currently battling to prevent any further deterioration in the artefact. The visitor will therefore understand that certain artefacts are unavailable for viewing at this time but once conservation is complete, they will take their full part in the collection.
